Approximately fifty automobiles have been covered with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Vehicles, walls and postal boxes were vandalized, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they reported in a release.
Officers state they were contacted during the night on Wednesday evening, when a resident noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued substance.
The liquid had been drawn in the form of a swastika, they added.
Officers then discovered numerous other marked automobiles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation prohibiting the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police report initial examinations indicate the liquid was likely blood from a person.
"At present there remains no lead as to where it came from; authorities are not yet aware of any physical harm in connection with the incident," they added.
Local authorities said they were working "to unravel the case" and have asked to the residents for tips.
A high-ranking political figure commented the attack rendered him without words and required to be solved rapidly.
"This event strikes at the center of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the far-right terrorist attack five years ago," he stated on social media, referring to the killing of nine individuals by a assailant aiming at residents of foreign heritage in 2020.
