An extensive two-month journey through the Land Down Under has been cancelled days after the tragic passing of an senior woman who was abandoned by the vessel on a distant coastal location.

The elderly woman had been hiking on Lizard Island with shipmates from the vessel, but broke off from the party for a pause. The vessel departed without her and returned later that day after the personnel realised the lady was not present.

A large-scale rescue mission discovered her remains the following day.

Authorities are investigating the incident, together with police and the state coroner.

Chief Executive of the voyage organizer stated that guests and personnel on the Coral Adventurer were notified that the continuation of the voyage had been terminated due to the "tragic passing and prior technical problems".

The daughter of the victim said that her relatives was "surprised and grieved that the liner left the island after an planned excursion without my mother".

"From the little facts we have been informed, it appears that there was a breakdown of care and ordinary reasoning," she said.
